                                          COLOSTRUM BENEFITS,  Q10 benefits

     Research studies done on Colostrum

Coenzyme Q10 is a vitamin-like substance used in the treatment of a variety of disorders primarily related to suboptimal cellular energy metabolism and oxidative injury. Studies supporting the efficacy of coenzyme Q10 appear most promising for neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease and certain encephalomyopathies for which coenzyme Q10 has gained orphan drug status. Results in other areas of research, including treatment of congestive heart failure and diabetes, appear to be contradictory or need further clarification before proceeding with recommendations. Coenzyme Q10 appears to be a safe supplement with minimal side effects and low drug interaction potential. (Am Fam Physician 2005;72:1065-70.                                                    Phytoplankton ocean map

Image courtesy NASA. The grey areas are the continents and the oceans are in color.

According to one 2002 study by NASA and U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric                                                                                                 Administration scientists, phytoplankton concentrations have declined by as much                                                                                                       as 30 percent in northern oceans since the early 1980s. Above, a world map compares                                                                                        satellite data collected during the summer between 1979 and 1986 and 1997 to 2000.                                                                                                     The map reflects changes in phytoplankton concentrations over the last 20 years in the open                                                                                          ocean. Deep blues show the greatest loss of phytoplankton. Yellow represents almost no change.                                                                                                 Browns, reds, and oranges show phytoplankton increases.                                                                                                                                                Black indicates that no data is available.

From the image above you can see that the northern and southern tips of Mother Earth are losing                                                                 phytoplankton, while the equatorial regions are getting a boost.

Fish Oils

Fish oil has a long history of being effectively used to fight inflammation. Go to the bottom of the page for scientific proof . Hopefully you understand the techs info.

It does such things as:

  • Suppressing T-cell activation and proliferation
  • Maintaining T-cell homeostasis through the contraction of populations of activated T cells
  • Reduction of inflammatory cytokines and eicosanoids
  • Promotion of apoptosis

Anti-inflammatory properties, Omega-3 lipid

The essential fatty acid eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) present in fish oils displays beneficial effects in a range of human disorders associated with inflammation including cardiovascular disease. . These results demonstrate novel counterregulatory responses in inflammation initiated via RvE1 receptor activation that provide the first evidence for EPA-derived potent endogenous agonists of antiinflammation. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Natural bioactive substances in milk and colostrum: effects on the arterial blood pressure system.

Groziak SM, Miller GD.

National Dairy Council, Dairy Management Inc. 10255 W. Higgins, Suite 900, Rosemont, IL 60018, USA.

High blood pressure is a significant public health problem worldwide which is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and renal disease. The development of this disease is influenced by genetic and environmental factors. The results of many studies have linked increased consumption of milk and milk products with lower blood pressure and reduced risk of hypertension.  More recent data indicate that a dietary pattern that is low in fat, with fruits, vegetables, and low fat dairy products can significantly reduce blood pressure and lower risk of developing high blood pressure.

The effect of bovine colostrum supplementation on exercise performance in elite field hockey players.

Hofman Z, Smeets R, Verlaan G, Lugt R, Verstappen PA.

Numico Research, Bosrandweg 20, 6704 PH Wageningen, The Netherlands.

In a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study, we investigated the effect of 8 weeks of supplementation with bovine colostrum (Intact) on body composition and exercise performance (5 x 10-m sprint, vertical jump, shuttle-run test, and suicide test). Seventeen female and 18 male elite field hockey players, including players from the Dutch national team, received either 60 g of colostrum or whey protein daily.  It is concluded that in elite field hockey players, colostrum supplementation improves sprint performance better than whey. However, there were no differences with regard to body composition or endurance performance.

The effects of bovine colostrum supplementation on body composition and exercise performance in active men and women.

Antonio J, Sanders MS, Van Gammeren D.

University of Delaware, Sports Science Laboratory, Newark, Delaware 19176, USA. exphys@aol.com

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of 8 wk of bovine colostrum supplementation on body composition and exercise performance in active men and women. Subjects were randomly assigned to a placebo (whey protein) and colostrum group (20 g/d in powder form). ....... Thus, supplementation with bovine colostrum (20 g/d) in combination with exercise training for 8 wk may increase bone-free lean body mass in active men and women.

Effects of dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on T-cell membrane composition and function.

Switzer KC, McMurray DN, Chapkin RS.

Molecular and Cell Biology Section, Faculty of Nutrition, Texas A&M University Health Science Center, College Station, Texas 77843-2471, USA.

Dietary n-3 PUFA have been shown to attenuate T-cell-mediated inflammation, in part, by suppressing T-cell activation and proliferation. n-3 PUFA have also been shown to promote apoptosis, another important mechanism for the prevention of chronic inflammation by maintaining T-cell homeostasis through the contraction of populations of activated T cells. Recent studies have specifically examined Fas death receptor-mediated activation-induced cell death (AICD), since it is the form of apoptosis associated with peripheral T-cell deletion involved in immunological tolerance and T-cell homeostasis. Data from our laboratory indicate that n-3 PUFA promote AICD in T helper 1 polarized cells, which are the mediators of chronic inflammation. Since Fas and components of the death-inducing signaling complex are recruited to plasma membrane microdomains (rafts), the effect of dietary n-3 PUFA on raft composition and resident protein localization has been the focus of recent investigations. Indeed, there is now compelling evidence that dietary n-3 PUFA are capable of modifying the composition of T-cell membrane microdomains (rafts). Because the lipids found in membrane microdomains actively participate in signal transduction pathways, these results support the hypothesis that dietary n-3 PUFA influence signaling complexes and modulate T-cell cytokinetics in vivo by altering T-cell raft composition.
